This is for the first time in his years-long career that highly celebrated filmmaker Karan Johar is working with completely fresh faces in his forthcoming film. Karan who has cast newcomers Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan and Siddharth Malhotra in his upcoming release ‘Student of the Year’ has worked with the some of the biggest names of the industry. While Varun and Siddharth assisted him before bagging this film, Alia was a completely new entrant to the camp.

Though she being filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt’s younger daughter was a star kid and was already a part of the industry but she debuting under Karan and not through her father’s films was surprising. And from what we hear, Alia earned her position the hard way. Karan recently confirmed that before casting Alia, he had auditioned 400 aspiring actresses for the role but none suited the role better than her.

“For the film’s heroine, we had actually screen tested over 400 girls from across Mumbai as well as other cities. This is when my writer Niranjan Iyengar told me that Mahesh Bhatt’s daughter Alia was raring to go and she could just be the right fit for the film. I did her test and was convinced that she had this X factor that could work for the film,” said Karan.

Now that’s what we call a destiny’s child, after all it’s not every day that a newcomer beats 400 aspiring actresses to bag a Karan Johar film.
