B’town is celebrating filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s completion of 30 years in the film industry and on that account the filmmaker’s past films are being showcased from 29th March to 4th April at PVR Pictures. Chopra’s periodical drama ‘Parineeta’ was also showcased recently where the filmmaker made a surprising revelation.
He admitted that his initial choice to play the role of protagonist ‘Parineeta’ was apparently former Miss World turned actor Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Chopra added that Aish suited the character well and could have looked great in the character. Conversely, he admits that he made a wise decision by roping in actor Vidya Balan for the role who apparently marked her Bollywood debut through this film.
Vidya auditioned for the film and got selected, but not before giving 70 tests. ‘Parineeta’ was adapted from 1914 Bengali novel of the same name by novelist Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay. The film also featured Saif Ali Khan, Dia Mirza, Sanjay Dutt and Raima Sen in pivotal roles.
