The highly anticipated film ‘Joker’ that has been in the making for over a year now has finally released but sadly it performs below expectations. There were huge expectations from the film as a lot was being said about it by the makers while the making. But all the tall claims fall flat on face as the film is not up to the mark.

This sci-fi fantasy story by Shirish Kunder is about a lesser known village Pagalpur that is devoid of national attention. The film’s resident Akshay (Augustya), a NASA scientist returns to his homeland to bring glory to his village and put Pagalpur on the map. And here Augustya plans a fake intervention of alien to get the village the required attention from the people and the government. And after a lot of hullabaloo and chaos the village at the end gets its due identity with respect.

The film is dull and thoroughly lacks entertainment factors. It becomes a drag and fails to pick up the pace as you wonder what was going on in director Shirish’s mind while making the film. However the film is not devoid of good performances. Akshay strives very hard to light up the screen with his performance and his hard work thoroughly shows off onscreen. But somehow there’s was not much he could’ve done with a poor story. Shreyas Talpade as a supporting star too has done a decent job in tickling our funny bones. Sonakshi SInha and Minissha Lamba hardly had any scope for performance in the film. Nonetheless Chitrangada Singh’s Item number ‘Kaafirana’ is the biggest and the only highlight of the film. Barring ‘Kaafirana’ no song has a shelf life beyond the film and mediocre music adds to the further woes of the film.

Watch it at your own risk.
