Jab Tak Hai Yawn

Have been a huge Yash Chopra fan since childhood; so was really emotional as walked in the theatre to watch his last film ‘Jab tak hai Jaan’. The movie starts beautifully in Ladakh and moves on to scenic London where SRK plays Samar a 20 something who makes a living by shoveling snow and performing on the streets. Katrina plays a rich girl Meera who lives in London; she is god fearing and is set to marry a man chosen by her dad. However sparks fly between Samar and Meera when they meet and Yash Chopra once again creates a beautiful romantic story which is bound to intrigue the viewers.

SRK and Katrina share a beautiful romantic chemistry and the two will make the viewers go ‘wow’ as the groove to ‘Ishq shavaa’. After things don’t work out between the two Samar decides to move back to India and continues his family tradition of serving in the Indian Army. Anushka Sharma plays a journalist Akira Rai who believes in living life on the edge, her dream is to cover war stories. Akira gets attracted to Major Samar while covering a special story for Discovery channel in featuring him as the most famous bomb diffuser.

Circumstances force Samar to go back to London after where he meets with an accident and ends up getting ‘retrograde amnesia’.  ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’ could have been a beautiful finale for legendary filmmaker Yash Chopra however the length of the movie is the biggest weakness. While first half of the movie is fun to watch, but the second half is quite a drag as editor Namrarta Rao fails to do her job well.

SRK is famous as a romantic hero and once again he manages to create magic with his co-star Kat, however the actor is not very convincing as an Army Major. The train sequence in London where SRK gets back his memory is completely irrational. King Khan however gives the movie his best and shines in few sequences. Katrina looks gorgeous and dances sexy however the actress carries a single expression throughout the movie, she really needs to work on her acting skills.

Anushka Sharma does justice to her character of Akira and adds spark  every time she appears on the screen especially in her swimsuit. The music of the movie is good as AR Rahman has composed songs that go well with the story. The editing and screenplay by Aditya Chopra and Devika Bhagat are two major drawbacks of the movie. I would have given two and half stars to the movie, but my respect for Yashji is compelling to give one more star as he with his direction has created a beautiful romantic world, sad it is for the last time…
