Vikram Bhatt is known to bring up unconventional subjects with his films and ‘Hate Story’ is just that. Fortunately, you will not hate this story as director Vivek Agnihotri narrates an intriguing tale with respectable performances by the lead stars.

‘Hate Story’ is a story a revenge, a revenge that a stinking rich Businessman Siddharth Dhanraj Gir aka Sid (Gulshan Devaiah) takes form a journalist Kavya Krishna (Paoli Dam) who executes a sting operation on Sid’s multi-billion company Cementec Infra with a little bit of assistance from her best friend Vicky (Nikhil Dwivedi). He almost kills Kavya and that’s when she decides to take her revenge.

Paoli Dam makes a promising and confident debut. It needs guts to carry off this character and this Bengali actress sure does a great job. Gulshan Devaiah is one actor who puts life into his characters. His aggression, stammering because of fear when talking to his father, and his body language is completely laudable. Nikhil Dwivedi looks good when he talks less. At times, he is himself but at times tries too hard to impress, especially in the climax.

Mohan Kapoor is decent while Joy Sengupta emotes well. Saurabh Dubey is a treat to watch while Iravati Harshe is wasted. Bhairavi Goswami does a cameo, has nothing much to do but looks quite hot. The rest of the supporting cast is okay.

Vivek Agnihotri shoots the film aesthetically and makes it an intriguing watch. There are a few loose ends in the film and the scenes move on too fast to let audience digest what actually happened in the previous scene. Dialogues by Rohit Malhotra are decent while the music is average. What impresses are a certain camera angles, especially the ones that roll on the opening credits. So, no complaints with the cinematography but the screenplay had to be a little more polished. The background score is another high point of the film.

An adult film that it is goes a little more on the sensual side and is definitely a must watch for people who enjoy that kind of films. But for regular movie buffs, ‘Hate Story’ is just a once watch
